Natural Stone for Countertops & Fireplace Surrounds

Selecting Natural Stone

1. We ask that you start with a simple drawing of your project that you can either bring into our office/showroom or fax into us at (925) 335-9805. (We also offer free in-home estimates for those of you who are uncomfortable drafting a drawing of your countertop project!)
2. We will contact you with any questions or clarification if needed and go over any design ideas that are appropriate for you project.
3. Prior to commencement of every project an accurate description of the project and contract will be drawn up.
4. Next is the fun part — selecting your stone! We have a selection of stone at our location in addition to having relationships with several large stone suppliers in the area where you can view lots of different slabs in many colors.
5. The area in your home that will receive the stone must be prepared with 5/8" plywood. (Demo of your old countertops and installation of new plywood can be incorporated into your contract for an additional cost).
6. Next we make a template of your countertop area. Your sink, stove, cook top and anything else that may have an effect on the countertop must be on hand.
7. We like clients to come to our location and over-see the placement of your template on the actual slab. If your stone has a lot of movement (variation in the design) you may want to stipulate what areas of the stone show up on specific areas of your countertop.
8. Based on your approved template placement, we will fabricate your stone on site.
9. We will then set up a convenient day for the installation. Our installers will arrive early and the installation is usually completed in one day.

Care & Maintenance of Natural Stone

• DO use coasters under glasses, especially if they contain alcohol or fruit juices.
• DO use trivets or mats under hot dishes or cookware.
• DO blot up spills immediately to minimize possible stains.
• DO clean surfaces by wiping with clean water or cleaner specifically made for natural stone.
• DO reseal your countertop twice a year.
• DON'T use abrasive or harsh cleansers as it may scratch or dull the finish.
• DON'T use vinegar, bleach, ammonia or citrus cleaners.
